Jazz Tales is an intimate setting that spotlights each musician’s unique musical and personal tale. Hosted by Jazz Alive Founder, Pianist Fred Hughes, the show features live performances and interviews with invited guests. Jazz Tales is a live-stream concert series. Your purchase of a Live-Stream Pass supports our mission of providing educational support in developing future artists and preserving this great art form through school and community programs. How the Live-Stream Pass Works When you purchase the Live-Stream Pass you will receive a receipt that has your unique URL to the events page. On the events page will be a box with the streaming details and 45 minutes before the show begins, the link to the show will be revealed. Jazz Alive is a a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation.
08/09/20 FOURantine Quartet Anywhere Live stream
Time: 7:00pm. Admission: $20 suggested, but any amount welcome. The FOURantine Quartet came about as a direct result of the COVID-19 pandemic crisis. While sheltering in place four longtime veterans of the DMV jazz scene found a way to utilize cutting-edge technology to rehearse simultaneously from their homes. On August 9th they will be performing together in person for the first time at Blue House Studios. The quartet’s individual credits include performances with the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra, The DIVA Jazz Orchestra, The National Symphony Orchestra, Kennedy Center productions, and premiere DC service bands. Their program of original music reflects influences from such great composers as Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk, Bill Evans, and later Miles Davis. FOURantine’s members are Leigh Pilzer, saxophone; Amy Shook, bass; Tony Nalker, piano; and Frank Russo, drums. Duke Ellington; New Orleans Suite Recognized as one of the most prolific composers in world history, Duke Ellington composed purposeful music. Forever inspired by his insightful view of the world, Duke was able to capture his insight in sound and orchestrated musical genius. Among the 2000 compositions credited to Ellington are a number of large scale suites. The Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra will present a concert celebrating the golden anniversary of Duke Ellington’s “New Orleans Suite,” a work dedicated to the rich heritage of the city.
