The Washington Women in Jazz Festival quintet (Leigh Pilzer, baritone saxophone; Jen Krupa, trombone; Amy Shook, bass; special guest Allison Miller, drums; and festival founder Amy K Bormet on piano) close an evening devoted to the music of Melba Liston with Liston’s composition “Melba’s Tune” and “Christmas Eve,” written by Slide Hampton for Melba and Her ‘Bones, Liston’s only release as a leader.
